Helen Jeanette was born on June 25th, 1918 in Opp, Covington County, Alabama.1 Helen Jeanette's father was Rueben Shelby Jeffcoat and her mother was Lena Mizell Grimes. Her maternal grandparents were Joshua English Grimes and Charity Adeline Foley. She had a brother named Cecil Shelby. She was the younger of the two children.
