Edna Irene Goodwin 
Edna Irene was born on October 7th, 1897 in Ellisville, Jones Co., MS.1 Edna Irene's father was Asa Edward Goodwin and her mother was Josephine Elizabeth Stewart. Her paternal grandparents were Asa Amos, Jr. Goodwin and Georgianna Ann M. Spradley; her maternal grandparents were John Stewart and Elizabeth Duvall. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Infant Boy, Asa Edward IV, Houston Stewart, Georgia Elizabeth, Maude Marie, Lena Mae, Josie Pearl, Fannie Eva, Infant Girs and Daryl Maxine. She was the oldest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 67 on February 8th, 1965 in Memphis, Shelby Co., TN. She was buried in October 1974 in National Cemetery, Memphis, TN. Edna Irene Goodwin Phillips was Past Matron of Bartlett Chapter #216,
Order of the Eastern Star in Bartlett, Tennessee. She was Past Noble
Grand of the Ruth Rebekah Lodge, Order of Odd Fellows in Arkansas and
later a chapter in Shelby County, Tennessee. She was a member of
Berclair Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
She was an amateur poet and published many poems over the years.
She loved flowers and had the most beautiful yard in her
neighborhood. She grew bearded iris and specialized in rare colors. Her
flower arrangements would have made a florist proud. She enjoyed her
vegetable garden and could be found outside most of the time until she
was too ill to do the required labor. An accomplished seamstress, she
dressed herself and her daughter in lovely clothes. She enjoyed all
types of handiwork. She could crochet, tat, quilt and embroidery. She
spent many hours in these activities.
She enjoyed good health until late years when her heart just gave out.
