His paternal grandparents were Asa Oliver Culver and Nancy Jane Pody; his maternal grandparents were Zabed Green and Susan A. (?). He had five brothers and six sisters, named Zabed Andrew, George Crockett, William Henry, Geames Alfred, Dudley Oliver, Amanda Alice, Roxie Ann, Cordy Deloney, Mary Emma, Theola and Nancy Beatrice.
