James- Fenimore, Author was born on August 15th, 1789 in Burlington, New Jersey.1 James- Fenimore, Author's father was William-, Judge Cooper and his mother was Elizabeth Fenimore. His paternal grandparents were James- Cooper and Hannah Hibbs. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Richard Fenimore, Sr., Isaac, Abraham, William Yeardley, Sr., Lawyer, Samuel, Sr., Henry Fry, Hannah, Ann, Ann and Elizabeth. He was the second youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 62 on September 14th, 1851 in Cooperstown, New York.1 General Notes

He gained fame as an author by writing fiction. His five leatherstocking
Tales about the American frontier hero Natty Bumppo were most famous. Of
these, The deerslayer and The Pioneers were set in the area of Otsego
Lake and Cooperstown, New York. Wrote Drums along the Mohawk and Last of
the Mohicans.
