General Notes
[coosa1.ged] There are many deed transactions recorded in the Coffee County Probate Office for John and Missouri Rushing. Missouri and John later moved into a house with four bedrooms and a large screened-in porch. The house was located in the Zoar Community. People enjoyed stopping by and having a drink of water out of John's & Missouri's well. They said that it was the best water around. One day sparks from the chimney caught the roof of the house on fire. Friends and neighbors came and formed a line from the well to the roof top. They passed buckets of water to the roof and were able to put out the fire before too much damage was done. Since the yard was lit with carbide lights on the fence posts, Missouri enjoyed sweeping the yard at night because it was much cooler. John died 13 May 1948. At that time all of their children were grown and living elsewhere. Missouri lived by herself after John's death; however, she occasionally stayed with her son, Alto and his family, who lived nearby. Missouri died 20 Mar 1955. John is buried in Zoar Methodist Church Cemetery in Coffee Co., AL with Eudora buried on one side and Missouri on the other. Alto and Edlow Rushing were Executors of the Estate of John M. Rushing. It was decided among the heirs to sell his land at a public auction on 28 Apr 1958.
