Thomas De Stanley Baron Stanley 
Thomas De Stanley Baron was born in 1386 in Latham, Lancashire, England. Thomas De Stanley Baron's father was John De Stanley and his mother was Isabel De Lathom. His paternal grandparents were William De Stanley and Alice De Massey; his maternal grandparents were Thomas De Lathom and Isabella Pilkington. He had two brothers named John and George. Thomas Stanley became, as was his grandfather, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, a post he held for six years. He was a warrior as well as a negotiator, and having served the offices of Comptroller of the Household and Chamberlain to King Henry VI, was chosen Knight of the Shire and had the Garter conferred upon him, and eventually, January 20, 1456, emerged from among the County Gentry, and was summoned to the House of Peers, as Baron Stanley, a dignity that he did not, however, long enjoy, his death occurring three years later, in 1459. Following the example of others of his kin, he sought out an heiress for a mate and found a fitting wife in the person of Joan Goushill, whose mother, Elizabeth, was daughter and co-heiress of Richard Fitz-Alan, Earl of Arundel, and consequently a representative in her person, not only of the family of d'Albini, as well as that of the Earls of Warren, but of the blood royal of England, and brought another quartering to the Stanley shield, that of Warren.
