Robert De Ferrers VIII Earl of was born in 1239 in Derby, Lincolnshire, England.  Robert De Ferrers VIII Earl of's father was William De Ferrers VII Earl of Derby and his mother was Margaret De Quincy.  His paternal grandparents were William De Ferrers VI Earl of Derby and Agnes De Keveliock Lady of Chartley; his maternal grandparents were Roger de Quincy , 2nd Earl of Winchester and Helen of Galloway. He had a brother and two sisters, named William De Ferrers Earl of, Margaret Joan and Agnes.  He was the second oldest of the four children. He had a half-brother and seven half-sisters, named Edmund De Lacy Earl Of, Maud, Isabel, Agatha, Agnes, Eleanor, Joan and Maud De Lacy Countess.  He died at the age of 40 in 1279.
