Margaret Joan was born in 1238 in Derbyshire, England. Margaret Joan's father was William De Ferrers VII Earl of Derby and her mother was Margaret De Quincy. Her paternal grandparents were William De Ferrers VI Earl of Derby and Agnes De Keveliock Lady of Chartley; her maternal grandparents were Roger de Quincy , 2nd Earl of Winchester and Helen of Galloway. She had two brothers and a sister, named Robert De Ferrers VIII Earl of, William De Ferrers Earl of and Agnes. She was the oldest of the four children. She had a half-brother and seven half-sisters, named Edmund De Lacy Earl Of, Maud, Isabel, Agatha, Agnes, Eleanor, Joan and Maud De Lacy Countess. She died in Castle Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England.
