John was born in 1354 in Raglan Castle, Usk, Monmouthshire, Wales. John's father was William 3rd Lord Morley , Marshal of Ireland and his mother was Cecily Cycely Bardolf. His paternal grandparents were Robert 2nd Lord Morley , Marshal of Ireland and Hawise Marshal , Heiress of Hockering; his maternal grandparents were Thomas 2nd Baron Bardolf , Sir and Agnes de Grandison. This is pure speculation for John's parentage. I am parking him here because it seems the most likely place. John's grandmother Hawise Marshal had a brother John, so the name runs in the family. I will keep checking, maybe sometime somebody will find poor John a home. I originally had John as holder of Raglan Castle; but some people state supposedly with evidence that he did not even have Raglan Castle--that it was inherited/purchased by William Herbert, John's grandson, through his 1st wife Elizabeth Bluet, heiress of Raglan, who was the widow of James Berkeley, who had become Lord of Raglan and passed it on to James & Elizabeth's son (also James). This is probably true since no one seems to know where John came from, let alone how he got Raglan Castle.
Actually I have sourced material (Magna Charta Sureties & Burke's Peerage] on the Herbert, Bluet and Berkeley connections with Raglan that support the fact that John had nothing to do with Raglan Castle.
