His paternal grandparents were Hugues IX De Lusignan and Matilde DeTaillefer; his maternal grandparents were Count of Valence & Angouleme Aymer De Taillefer Count of Valence & Angouleme and Alice De Courtenay. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Hugh XI, Aymer, Geoffroi, Alice and Isabelle.
