Aymer was born about 1160 in Angouleme, Charent, France.  Aymer's father was Count of Angouleme William IV De Taillefer Count of Angouleme and his mother was Marguerite De Turenne.  His paternal grandparents were Count of Angouleme Wulgrim II De Taillefer Count of Angouleme and Ponce De La Marche; his maternal grandparents were Raymond De Turenne and Matilda Maud De Perche. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Ademar V Boson and Matilde.  He died in 1218 in L'Abbey La Couronne, France.

‌Aymer and Alice were married in a religious ceremony in 1180 in Angouleme, Aquitaine, France.  They had a daughter named Isabella.
