Matthew was born in 1730 in Queen Annes Co, Md. Matthew's father was William Samples Sparks and his mother was Rachel. His paternal grandparents were William Jr Sparks and Margaret Hamilton. He had two brothers named William and James. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 63 in 1793 in Franklin Co, Ga, Rowan Co, Nc.
