Benjamin was born in 1810 in Robeson County,North Carolina.1 Benjamin's father was Benjamin Lovett and his mother was Elizabeth Cox. His maternal grandfather was Simon Cox. He had a brother and a sister, named Joel and Elizabeth. He was the second oldest of the three children.General Notes
It is assumed that he is the brother of Joel, who was living next doorin 1850.
He is listed on page 208, as free colored, 2 males under 10, 1 male10-24, 1 male 24-36, 1 female under 10, 1 female 10-24.
Note that Hardy Lovett is listed on the same page, also as freecolored 101000/11000. This puts Hardy in the age range of 24-36, thesame as Benjamin.

Note that in the publication "The Robesonian", Dr. Morris Brittassumed that the Benjamin Lovett who had married Elizabeth Cox hadalso married Molsey Barnes. However, the 1850 census shows that to bean error.
