John I was born on September 24th, 1675 in Drayton,Berkshire,Eng. and his baptism took place on July 4th, 1708 in Of,New Castle,DE.1 2 John I's father was Thomas Cox and his mother was Christian Matthews. His paternal grandparents were Robert Cocke and Elizabeth Clifford. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Sarah and Christian. He was the second youngest of the five children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Richard, William and Mary. He died at the age of 36 in 1711 in Newcastle Co. DE.3 General Notes
