His paternal grandparents were Lord Maldred Ceanmor Of Carlisle & Allendale and Dutchess Edith De Northumberia; his maternal grandparents were King Henry I (Beaucleric, Fine Scholar) De Normandy Of England and Sybilla Corbet Of Alcester - Concubine. He had a brother and three sisters, named Gilbert, Affrica, Bethoc and Margaret. He was the oldest of the five children.
