Nancy was born in 1850. Nancy's father was Thomas Day Allen and her mother was Martha Carruth. Her paternal grandparents were John B. Allen and Nancy Day. She had two brothers and three sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named William Day, John, Sarah, Matilda Clemetyne, Martha and Baby. She was the oldest of the seven children. She had a half-brother and four half-sisters, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender, named Thomas, Cora, Emma L, Mary, Nellie and Baby.-
