John Powell 
John was born on June 19th, 1803 in Mercer Co., Kentucky.1 John's father was Charles POWELL and his mother was Sarah Leah GOLDMAN. His paternal grandparents were Charles POWELL and Sarah GHOLSON; his maternal grandfather was Henry Goldman. He had eight brothers and two sisters, named Lewis, Henry, David, Jacob, Cyrus, James Walton, Elijah, Goldman, Sarah and Polly. He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 83 on May 10th, 1887 in Doniphan Co., KS.1 General Notes

John Powell married Mary Martin May 12, 1826 Mercer Co. KY. It is not proven that this is ou r John Powell, but we believe it is. There is an Elizabeth Powell with this family age 16 bor n KY on the 1850 census. She could be a daughter of John and Mary, or possibly she could act ually be Elizabeth Sweeney. Henry, Wilson, John age 8, and Minerva are listed as Powell on t his census, but they were actually Sweeney children of Mary Jane Noble and her first husband , Unknown Sweeney.
