John F. was born in 1830 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 John F.'s father was William Lewis Christian and his mother was Agnes Lewis Bailey. His paternal grandparents were John Christian and Nancy Skelton; his maternal grandfather was Samuel Bailey. He had two brothers and a sister, named Eldridge, Stephen H. and Mahala Jane. He was the youngest of the four children. He had seven half-brothers and five half-sisters, named William Skelton, Jesse R., Isaac L., M. C., James K., Joseph Frank, David Lyons, Elizabeth, Mary Elizabeth, Nancy, Rachel Matilda and Lillie Belle.-
