His paternal grandparents were Matthew (The Martyr) (Patton) PATOUN and Christian PORTEOUS . He had six brothers named Mathew Leander (Old Matt), James , Joseph , Benjamin, Alexander and Tristram "Trussie". He was the third youngest of the seven children.-
