Elias was born in 1809 in TN. Elias 's father was Daniel COFFELT and his mother was Gertrude SHRIDER . His paternal grandparents were Johann Philipp KAUFELDT and Eleanor E. "Nelly" RYAN . He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Daniel , Abraham, Isaac, Jacob T. , James Henry , Phillip, Michael, Elizabeth, MARY ANN , Ellen Nell "Nellie" and Margaret. He was the third youngest of the twelve children.-
