The George Shutters Family.GED
Abraham and Elizabeth had the following children: Lucinda, Mary,
Catherine, Isaac, Tabitha, Clarandy, Margaret, George, Barbara Caroline,
Martha and Rebecca Jane. Rebecca Jane was Sharon Wakefield's Great
Grandmother.
Abraham was originally from Virginia. His father, Daniel, had property in the present counties of Claiborne, Grainger, Greene and, possibly,Campbell. Abraham and Elizabeth moved to Marion County, Tennessee about 1825. They may have lived near Evansville, Indiana for a short time. They moved to Osage County, Missouri
about 1859.
There is an apparent problem with the Shelter(s)/Shetter(s)/Shutter(s)
name in the Claiborne County Census. Material available lists only one
family in Tennessee in 1830 with a name even remotely resembling any of
the above. That is George Shutters/Shetters of Claiborne County. His
descendents are listed variously as Shutters and Shetters.
In 1813 in Claiborne County, TN., George Shelter brought suit against
David McReynolds and James Candry". Recorded in Book A, Wills and
Settlements (1812-1817). The suit was dismissed by order of the plaintiff and David McReynolds, one of the defendents assumes the costs of the suit.
The Court ordered that the plaintiff recover the costs of the suit
against David McReynolds, one of the defendents.
In 1834, Claiborne County, TN, George Shelter purchased 59 1/2 acres of
land in Campbell County., TN in Powells valley. Purchased from James
Walker of Rockcastel County, Kentucky. Recorded in Book G, page 131,
Price $100.00.
In 1840 Claiborne County, TN, an inventory of the estate of George Shelter was filed. Daniel and Jacob Crutchfield (Probably Coffelt) purchased the items. (Daniel and Jacob were the names of Abraham Coffelt's brothers.

Abraham and Elizabeth first lived and farmed in the Evansville, Indiana
area. Several of the older children were born there. When Isaac was 6,
they moved to Sequatchie River north of Jasper and south-east of Whitwell in
Marion County, Tennessee. In 1858, they sold their land and moved to Osage
Missouri. This journey was made by wagons and oxen and took six weeks.
During the trip the younger daughters rode the horses and tookcare of the cattle. On the trip, the oxen's feet became tender and had to be shod. Description of property in Osage County, Missouri, Book H, Page 539, Section 12, Township 44, Range 8 West. Abraham and his son
Isaac owned land in Benton Township, Osage County, Missouri, a half mile
from Chamois, Missouri. After the death of Isaac, his son Daniel
inherited the land.
