Her paternal grandparents were David Spain and Abigail Roberts; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Proctor and ? ?. She had two brothers and three sisters, named James A, John Henry Washington, Mary Jane, Catherine Hannah and Abigail R. She was the second oldest of the six children. She had five half-sisters named Laura Jane, Martha Ann, Lavina Eleanor, Elizabeth Terel and Julia Ann Waddle.General Notes
