In 1718, Thomas Spain, among others, was ordered to assist in clear ing
the Nottoway River Road from John Coleman's on the
Appomattox River
to the south end of Blackwater Bridge. In 1719,
Thomas Spain sued
David Colesha w and later that year David Crawley sue
him.
In 1730, Thomas was clerk of Na mosend Chapel in
Bristol Parish. As
early as 1738, Thomas had purchased land in Amelia
Co., VA.
In 1740 Thomas was clerk at Hatcher's Run.
In 1742, he was named one of the executor of the
Will of William Haskins
of Henrico Co., VA., and his wife Martha Spain was
named Legatee.
Martha's maiden names was Haskins. Martha Haskins
Spain, Thomas'
wife, died prior to 1754. Thomas mar ried Elizabeth
MAYO on 25
July,1754 in Amelia Co., VA.* Marriage July 25,

David Spain. Each parcel was located on the west
side o f Deep Creek. It
states that Thomas the father was from Dinwiddie
County, an d that the
sons were from Nottoway Parish in Amelia Co., VA.
Thomas had
obt ained this land from John Williamson. This
conveyance has the
knowledge of h is wife Elizabeth. The witnesses were
JOHN SPAIN, John
Gray, and Sam Sherwin . There are separate
