Spain. Rec: 20 Aug 1751 signed John (x) Spain Judah (x) S pain. I believe
that John Spain, Sr. died before 1741 and these John Jr., Dre wry and
William are his sons. I further believe that the James and Thomas Spa in
in the Albemarle Parrish records of Surry/Sussex along with the three
Sp ain sons above are all John children and were having children of their
own du ring the mid 1700's. John Spain is believed to be the father of
William and T homas Spain who lived in Bristol Parish, Pr. George Co.,
Virginia. William wa s the elder of the two sons In 1718, son,
Thomas Spain, among others, was orde red to assist in clearing the
Nottoway River Road from John Coleman's on the Appomattox River to the
south end of Blackwater Bridge. Thomas, in 1719, sued David Coleshaw and
later that year David Crawley sued him. In 1730, Thomas w as clerk of
Namosend Chapel in Bristol Parish. In 1740 he was clerk at Hatche r's Run.
In 1742, he was named one of the executor of the Will of William Has kins
of Henrico Co., VA., and his wife Martha S
