America was born in , Bell, Texas.1 America's father was John Ross Kegans and her mother was Clarinda Pevehouse. Her paternal grandparents were James Kegans and Mary Ross; her maternal grandparents were James Pevehouse and Mary (Polly) Hodge. She had three brothers and four sisters, named James, John, William Foster, Elizabeth Jane, Nancy, Elsie and Mary. She died in , Mitchell, Texas.1 -
