Wilson was born in 1845 in Poinsett Co, AR.1   Wilson's father was Joshua Grinder and his mother was Barbara ?.  His paternal grandparents were Joshua Grinder and Francis ?. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, James, Joshua, Henry, Martha, Hulda and Mary J..  He was the second youngest of the eight children.
