Martha was born in 1834 in TN.1   Martha's father was Joshua Grinder and her mother was Barbara ?.  Her paternal grandparents were Joshua Grinder and Francis ?. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Joshua, Henry, Wilson, Hulda and Mary J..  She was the second oldest of the eight children.
