William was born in 1829 in TN.1   William's father was Joshua Grinder and his mother was Barbara ?.  His paternal grandparents were Joshua Grinder and Francis ?. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James, Joshua, Henry, Wilson, Martha, Hulda and Mary J..  He was the oldest of the eight children.
