William P. was born in 1849 in Poinsett Co, AR.1   William P.'s father was Nicholas Grinder and his mother was Margaret Calhoun.  His paternal grandparents were Joshua Grinder and Francis ?. He had three brothers and five sisters, named John R., James A., Jasper W., Elizabeth, Mary K., Sarah Ann, Margaret Sullivan and Martha C..  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
