John Brown was born in 1787 in Washington, Virginia.1   John Brown's father was Samuel Buchanan and his mother was Elizabeth Duncan.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Buchanan and Martha McNutt. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Robert, Andrew, Samuel, Martha S, Jane, Mary, Elizabeth, Nancy and Peggy.  He was the youngest of the ten children.  He died about 1825 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.1
