Jane was born in 1772 in Augusta, Virginia.1   Jane's father was Samuel Buchanan and her mother was Elizabeth Duncan.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Buchanan and Martha McNutt. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Robert, Andrew, Samuel, John Brown, Martha S, Mary, Elizabeth, Nancy and Peggy.  She was the third oldest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 55 in 1827 in Davidson County, Tennessee.1
