Ruth was born on February 12th, 1800 in North Carolina. Ruth's father was John Wilson and her mother was Sarah Skeen. Her maternal grandparents were Matthew Skeen and Ruth Lamar. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Joel, Durham, John, Eli, Matthew Skeen, Nancy, Martha and Sarah. She was the second oldest of the ten children.-
