His maternal grandparents were William Thomas Beggs and Margaret Jane Hess. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Arnold Russell, Bazil Cecil, William Gordon, David Roy, Lyle Harold, Orville Howard, Living, Ruby Beatrice Marguerite, Edith Eleanor May, Lillian Velma and Florence Alice Pearl.-
