Charles of Ingelheim was born in 0772 in of Aachen.1   Charles of Ingelheim's father was Charlemagne Holy Roman Emp and his mother was Hildegarde von Vinzgau.  His paternal grandparents were Pepin III the Short King of Franks and Bertrada "Broadfoot" de Laon; his maternal grandparents were Gerold I (Childebrand) Duke of Swabia and Imma de Allemania. He had two brothers named Pepin I de Lombardy and Louis le Debonaire.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Hugues and Alpais.1
