Living's father was James McDuffie Benton and her mother was Sinia Catherine Bishop. Her paternal grandparents were James Medicus Benton and Annie Elizabeth Bishop. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named Lewis Ernest, Irving Meticus, James Clarence, Kelly Lamar, Ladson Thurmon, Harold, James Duffie, Living, Thelma Elizabeth and Edith Rhumelle.-
