Lewis Ernest was born on October 24th, 1915 in Walterboro, SC.1 Lewis Ernest's father was James McDuffie Benton and his mother was Sinia Catherine Bishop. His paternal grandparents were James Medicus Benton and Annie Elizabeth Bishop. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Irving Meticus, James Clarence, Kelly Lamar, Ladson Thurmon, Harold, James Duffie, Living, Thelma Elizabeth, Edith Rhumelle and Living. He died due to Prostate cancer. at the age of 73 on January 10th, 1989 in Walterboro, SC.1 General Notes

Lewis's youngest daughter Annie say's; long ago, Lewis used to spell his first name, "Louis", but do to problems with a person named Lois Benton, he changed the spelling.
