Robert Walter was born on September 22nd, 1919. Robert Walter's father was Pendleton McLain Shiflett and his mother was Mary Louise Bowles. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Joseph Bowles and Ann Bigger Crump. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Pendleton McLain, Thomas Bowles, Ann Crump and Mary Louise. He was the third oldest of the five children.-
