Susan Sophronia was born before 1886. Susan Sophronia's father was William Henry Shields and her mother was Nancy Hammer Childress. Her maternal grandparents were James Clifton Childress and Sophronia Eliza Tapscott. She had two brothers and a sister, named Willie Peyton, James Clifton and Nellie. She was the second oldest of the four children.-
