Sophronia Eliza was born on August 27th, 1827 in Buckingham Co., VA. Sophronia Eliza's father was William Hill Tapscott and her mother was Eliza Carr Childress. Her maternal grandparents were Benjamin Childress and Ann Key Johnston. She had two brothers and four sisters, named William Henry Hill, Benjamin George, Agnes Ann Elizabeth, Pocohontas Caroline, Mary Magdalene and Sarah Abraham. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.-
