Nancy Hammer was born on August 15th, 1862 in Albemarle Co., VA. Nancy Hammer's father was James Clifton Childress and her mother was Sophronia Eliza Tapscott. Her maternal grandparents were William Hill Tapscott and Eliza Carr Childress. She had three brothers and a sister, named William Henry, Samuel, James Clifton and Virginia Elizabeth. She was the second youngest of the five children.-
