Her paternal grandparents were Robert Pryor and Elizabeth Virginia Green; her maternal grandparents were George Gaines and Ellinor ?. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Green, Robert, Abner, John Henry, Lucy, Elizabeth, Rhoda, Mildred Kathleen, Leah, Rachel and Dorothy. She was the third youngest of the twelve children.-
