Matthew Mountjoy was born on January 17th, 1784 in Goochland Co., Virginia. Matthew Mountjoy's father was George M. Payne and his mother was Betty McCarty Morton. His paternal grandparents were George Payne and Judith Burton; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Morton and Frances Colston. He had a brother and five sisters, named Jonathan S., Judith Burton, Mary Barnes, Lucy Hubard, Margaret B. and Elizabeth McCarty. He died at the age of 78 on August 1st, 1862 in Goochland Co., Virginia. He was buried in church cemetery, Grace Episcopal Church, Goochland Co., VA.-
