Mahala R. was born in 1848. Mahala R.'s father was J. W. Daniel and her mother was Mary Ann Butler. Her maternal grandparents were Christopher Butler and Mehala Cole. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Thomas C., J. W., Marion L., Patrick B., Joel, Nancy E., Mary Ann, Agnus and Susanah. She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.-
