His paternal grandparents were Archibald Blankenship and Prudence Conday. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Edward Levi, Leslie Combs, Mary P., Anna, Sarah Elizabeth and Elvira. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named John Archer.-
