Hugh Balderston was born on November 23rd, 1849.1 Hugh Balderston's father was Micajah Bates and his mother was Martha Ann Balderston. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Bates and Tace Crew; his maternal grandparents were Hugh Balderston and Margaret ?. He had five brothers and a sister, named Micajah, Frank Tyree, Jacob, Walter Gurney, John and Margaret Wilson. He was the second oldest of the seven children. He had five half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Charles Frederick, Elisha Henry, William Savery, Benjamin, Samuel Edward, Tace Elizabeth, Martha, Catherine, Louisa Jane and Mary.-
