William was born in 1781 in Marden, Kent.  William's father was Zebulon STANLEY and his mother was Ann SHAW.  His maternal grandparents were William SHAW and Sarah. He had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Samuel, David, Stephen, James and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 78 in December 1859 in Marden, Kent.  He was buried on December 16th, 1859 in Marden, Kent.
