Charles was born in 1862 in Chilham, Kent.  Charles' father was David STANLEY and his mother was Frances BOXELL.  His paternal grandparents were David STANLEY and Ann LAMBERT; his maternal grandparents were John BOXALL and Sarah. He had two brothers and three sisters, named John David, Henry, Sarah Anne, Harriett and George.
