Martin was born on September 21st, 1886 in East Peckham, Kent.1   Martin's father was William SAUNDERS and his mother was Rose A MARTIN.  His paternal grandparents were James SAUNDERS and Elizabeth JEFFERY; his maternal grandparents were John Walter MARTIN and Mary MARTIN. He had four brothers named John Charles William, George Henry, Frank and Robert.  He was the third oldest of the five children.  He died  due to Carcinomatosis; Carcinoma prostate at the age of 94 on February 19th, 1981 in Linton Hospital, Coxheath, Kent.2
