Mary Ann was born in 1839 in East Peckham, Kent, England.  Mary Ann's father was John MARTIN and her mother was Mary.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann SIMMONDS. She had two brothers and a sister, named John Walter, Henry and Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the four children.
