Elizabeth was born in 1827 in East Peckham, Kent, England.  Elizabeth's father was John MARTIN and her mother was Mary.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann SIMMONDS. She had two brothers and a sister, named John Walter, Henry and Mary Ann.  She was the oldest of the four children.
